Taylor Mulch
11th Grade
Cross Country

If there is one word to describe Taylor Mulch’s 2016 cross country campaign, it is perseverance. From the first meet, the future of the season was bleak as Taylor could barely walk due to nagging knee issues. While this would have ended many runners’ season, it did not daunt Taylor, and she worked hard to rehab her knees and return to form as the Rams’ top runner. When Taylor began to feel healthy, she clocked a 20:26 5k on a hilly Holmdel Park course; then, she ran 19:14, 19:15, and 19:13 respectively for three weeks at Ocean County Park which was nearly two minutes faster than what she ran during the second week of the season. At the Group Four South Jersey Sectional Championships at Delsea High School, Taylor led the Rams finishing 8th in a time of 18:53 which was 1:50 faster than what she ran there four weeks prior. Although the Rams did not advance out of the section, Taylor’s 8th place earned her a berth in the NJSIAA State Group Four Championships last Saturday (11/12/16) at Holmdel Park. She placed 25th out of a field of 143 with a time of 19:56, 30 seconds faster than she ran there six weeks earlier. This effort was also the 58th fastest time out of the 501 athletes that ran on Saturday. Taylor’s diligence and grittiness is matched by her positivity and ebullience making her a respected leader for the Rams. She looks forward to some welcomed recovery time before indoor track begins next Monday, November 21, 2016. Written by Southern Regional High School Girls Cross Country Coach Mr. Jason Capelli.
